About Joseph Martzen, PT, DPT
Joseph is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). He earned his doctoral degree from the University of Scranton. Joseph took the non-traditional route to achieve his doctoral degree, first earning a degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) from Penn State graduating in 2011. He worked his way through the remaining years of school developing and refining his skill and passion for the profession. This process has allowed him to hold a unique perspective appreciating all aspects of care along the physical therapy spectrum. He has experience in all areas of patient care including inpatient rehab, acute care, outpatient orthopedics, outpatient neurology, pediatrics and aquatic therapy. Joseph's experience has led him to have a special interest in orthopedics and neurology.
The University of Scranton has a motto for the Physical Therapy Department: Embracing the Call of Others. Joseph is passionate about his patient care, he embodies this motto as he truly embraces each and every patient with his full energy and attention. In addition to patient care Joseph also holds an interest in research. His research has been accepted and presented at Combined Sections Meeting (CSM). Josephs research covered the topics of Parkinson’s’ disease and virtual reality.
The profession of Physical therapy is one of lifelong learning. Joseph is planning to continue this learning process by pursuing additional learning experiences and training in the mechanical diagnosis method through the McKenzie institute and seeking additional specialization in the area of neurology with a specific focus on the treatment of balance disorders to best serve each and every patient.
